Model output requirements

Model output requirements

The output below will enable us to use your model data to update the Wales Flood Maps and incorporate it in the local impacts database of the Flood Risk Assessment Wales Economic Tool Set.

You should discuss the model output requirements with us at the start of your project and agree your approach.

River and surface modelling

Defended, Undefended, and Proposed/as-built have the following Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP):

  • 1 in 2 (Qmed)
  • 1 in 10
  • 1 in 30
  • 1 in 30 Climate Change Central
  • 1 in 75
  • 1 in 100
  • 1 in 100 Climate Change Central
  • 1 in 200
  • 1 in 1000
  • 1 in 1000 Climate Change Central

Sensitivity, Blockage, and Breach have the following Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP):

  • 1 in 100

You should confirm the modelling requirements for Sensitivity, Blockage, and Breach as part of Scoping Study. These may vary on a case-by-case basis.

You should perform your Climate Change analysis for a 100 year time horizon to update our national mapping.

Coastal modelling

Defended, Undefended, and Proposed/as-built have the following Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP):

  • MHWS
  • 1 in 30
  • 1 in 30 Climate Change Central
  • 1 in 75
  • 1 in 100
  • 1 in 200
  • 1 in 200 Climate Change Central
  • 1 in 1000
  • 1 in 1000 Climate Change Central
  • 1 in 1000 Climate Change Upper

Sensitivity, Blockage, and Breach have the following Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP):

  • 1 in 200

You should confirm the modelling requirements for Wave overtopping, Sensitivity, Blockage, and Breach as part of your Scoping Study. These may vary on a case-by-case basis.

You should perform your Climate Change analysis for a 100 year time horizon to update our national mapping. You might have to consider additional time horizons may need to meet Welsh Government Guidance.
