Community invited to share their views on new Anglesey woodland design

Community members surrounding Tyn Y Mynydd on Anglesey are being invited to join staff from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) at an event to share ideas on the creation and design of a new woodland in the area (30 June).

The land was purchased by NRW in February earlier this year as part of a wider project to increase woodland cover on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and contribute towards tackling the climate and nature emergencies.

The drop in event, which will be held at the Canolfan Esceifiog community hall on 30 June, forms part of the wider NRW consultation designed to seek feedback from local communities on the plans for the woodland, following the online consultation that launched earlier last month.

Staff will be available to talk to residents about the plans for the woodland and how they can be involved in shaping the design and on-going management for the future.

The new woodland will form part of The Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting initiative with planting set to commence in the Autumn of this year.

Miriam Jones-Walters Specialist Advisor Land Stewardship at Natural Resources Wales said:

Providing local communities with a platform to express and share their views with us is a really important part of the design process. We want to encourage people who live in the area to come along on 30 June and talk to us or take part in our online consultation and have their say.
We want to engage with our neighbours, local communities and our partners to plan and design the woodland, shaping it in to a safe and accessible space, that local residents and visitors will be able to enjoy for years to come.
We intend this to be just the beginning of our consultation, and there will be other opportunities over the summer to help plan and shape this site.

The drop-in event will be held on Thursday 30 June at the Canolfan Esceifiog, community hall 12:00 -7:00pm.
